What are the cancellation and billing rules under NCE?
NCE applies a 72-hour cancellation window after purchase or renewal, with distinct monthly and annual commitment and billing rules.
Answer
Under Microsoft New Commerce Experience (NCE), cancellation and billing depend on the subscription term selected at purchase. All NCE subscriptions include a 72-hour cancellation window: if a customer cancels within 72 hours of the initial purchase or a renewal transaction, a full refund or credit may apply according to partner and Microsoft policy; after 72 hours, cancellation typically stops future renewals rather than reversing the current term. Monthly term subscriptions bill monthly, renew automatically each month, and can be cancelled to prevent the next renewal with limited mid-term seat reduction rules depending on product. Annual term subscriptions commit the customer for twelve months, are billed according to the billing frequency chosen (annual or monthly payments on an annual commitment), and generally cannot be cancelled mid-term for a refund after the 72-hour window—seat decreases may be restricted until renewal. Partners must configure terms, renewal settings, and customer notifications in Partner Center. Always confirm current product-specific schedules in Microsoft's official NCE documentation, as seat modification and co-term rules vary by workload.
